My Goal for this Blog

My first post was rambling and I apologize for that.  It was a bad introduction and I'd like to introduce what I'd like this blog to be about.

I'm trying to get healthy, and I want you to get healthy too.  I plan on posting about my journey, and giving you tips to go on yours.  I also want you to know the effects extra weight can have on the body that people may not know.  We all know belly fat is dangerous, drinking lots of water (The massage therapist in me wants you to know that 1/2 your body weight in ounces is recommended daily!) and eating the right foods and portions is key.

But did you know that for every extra pound you carry it adds an extra 3 pounds of pressure on your knee joint when you walk, and 10 extra pounds of pressure when you run?  That means, for me, I put an extra 186 pounds of pressure on my knees when I walk (As I weigh 222, am 5'8", and 160 is ideal goal for my height).  That's kind of scary!

I'll leave you with that thought, and I'll see you tomorrow!

  1. I didn't know that about adding pressure to your knees. Ouch! I am 5'8 I am currently at 204.8. I started last year off (2011) at 219. I thought it was time for a change. I joined WW, started running and was at 190 in Oct 2011. The holidays hit and I got lazy. I am now at 204.8. My clothes are getting tight and I am uncomfortable. I am having a problem getting motivated.

    1. It also puts serious pressure on your L5 vertebrae which can eventually lead to herniated discs and sciatica as a result! Motivation is what I have the hardest time with. Motivation to get up, motivation to stop eating junk, motivation to track my food on WW! And NO FAST FOOD! Fast food is my downfall I can tell you that much!

What I find what works best for me is small goals and telling myself I have NO excuses. I even put a note on my laptop that told me I had no excuses.

Don't feel bad if you skip one day, or splurge on one thing, just remember to try your best for the rest of the day and the next! You got down to 190 before you CAN do it again, and that's the reality of it.
